1987, What a year!

Dad decided he was having a new motor and unknowing to me had been hanging his nose over a

Toyota Corolla Gt Twincam 1.6 16V

We headed off to the local dealers who had a silver over graphite in stock....just ready for the pre-booked test drive. Of course Dad took the keys and we headed out to a local fast A-road that we both knew fairly well. He had a wide grin on his face as he pulled over to pass me the keys. I’ll always remember the noise, the driving position and response from the beautifully built Twincam motor as I gave it a little throttle. I was in heaven!

Up until this point in my short driving career, I’d only had the pleasure of driving a mini and then my XR2 at the time; this was a whole different ball game.

The Corolla sang as we drove along to an endless surge of power, the motor always begging for more.

Needless to say, my ‘ole man bought it!. He always said that one day the Toyota would be mine. Dad eventually bought a Rav4 as he got less able to climb inside the low slung seats of the Twincam. Sadly, the Corolla had to take second stage and live outside in the wet for the final 3 years before I took delivery.

 

It was a really sad day at the beginning of February 2007 when I finally had the responsibility of owning full-time & restoring this beauty to its former glory

RIP Dad...we miss you so much. You’ll always be with us in our hearts and thoughts.
